Workshop: What is Innovation? 1-2 October 2022

about the project

Workshop 1-2 October 2022

What is innovation?

On the first weekend of October, our project team and our advisory board members met at the University of Mainz for our thematic workshop on “what is innovation”.
Building on our discussions in Malawi earlier this year, we spent two days presenting, sharing, discussing and developing our ideas concerning linguistic, and in particular morphosyntactic variation and innovation  in youth language practices. On Saturday, our project members presented insights into their fieldwork data and analyses followed by fruitful debates with the advisory board members. Moreover, on both days the other participants provided short interventions and further discussions. During this very productive weekend, we started creating the outline and content sketch for a joint paper on linguistic innovation which will be published as a result of this workshop.
